'OK! Magazine' Presents: Performance by R&B Singer Jason Derulo

Recording artist Jason Derulo performs at Lure in Hollywood hosted by Jordin Sparks

Nene Leakes shows off her beautiful smile to reporters while on the red carpet
Awards season in the world of music is in full swing this year. And what better way to have started it off but with the celebration of the 56th Annual Grammy Awards at Staples Center in Downtown L.A. But of course every award ceremony has to have a party to kick off the anticipated event. So, for the next two days, prior to Grammy night, the stars came out to party it up and indeed they did.

Various talents included artists and TV personalities such as Nene Leakes, Teen Mom’s Farrah Abraham, actress Tatyana Ali, singer Mike Posner, and many more showed off their red carpet fashion as they made their way into the party at Lure nightclub that was presented by OK! Magazine on Friday night.
Some partiers talked to reporters about the star-studded event and among other things making predictions on which of their favorite artists would win big on Grammy night. Mostly all had favored Draft Punk, which won by the way five Grammy’s total, which included the main category of Record of the Year for their hit song “Get Lucky” and Album of the Year for Random Access Memories. However, there was one particular artist that they could not help but favor and yet wasn’t even nominated this year. Of course I am referring to Queen B!

attention on the red carpet
Yes, Beyoncé shocked everyone last year after releasing her self-titled album overnight without any promotion prior to its digital release on iTunes. Once word got out via social media about the ‘visual album’ being available to the public, within hours, the Apple website had temporarily crashed. Beyond the media hype of using an unorthodox business strategy to sell her album, critics and fans around the world felt the album was actually very good, which is why Beyoncé remained NO. 1 for three weeks on Billboard, and sold over 1.3 million copies in its first 17 days since it release on Dec. 13, 2013.

Perhaps this is why stars were getting ahead of themselves on predicting that Beyoncé will be nominated for next year’s Grammys. It might be a possibility, but we’ll find out by the end of the year if that’s the case.

Now I know what you are thinking, everyone focuses more attention on who attends the after-parties. Yes, but, whenever there is an elaborate and well-respected award show underway (such as the Grammys and Oscars), it is common for celebrities to attend several parties, brunches, and pre events throughout the week until the main event occurs. So that may be true but there was something about this Pre-Grammy party by OK! Magazine that turned out to be such a lovely event and it all had to do with one of the most favorite couple in the music biz.
The lovely Jordin Sparks hosting
the special event
As you know the event was hosted by American Idol alumni Jordin Sparks and featured a performance by her rumored fiancé Jason Derulo. It was nice to see this adorable couple walking down the red carpet hand-in-hand; and when inside the club, the 24-year-old singer/actress introduced the “love of [her] life” on stage to an excited crowd. The multi-platinum artist sang most of his biggest hits, including his new song “Talk Dirty” from his third album Tattoos. Derulo and his backup dancers entertained the audience with some wicked back flips and awesome dance moves.

But he really wooed everyone when he sang the beautiful love song “Marry Me”. You could even see Sparks towards the side of the stage lip-syncing each word to the song he was singing. And towards the end of the song, Derulo got down on one knee as if he was proposing to his one true love. It was really nice to see such genuine love between this young couple that have been together for more than two years. It’s no wonder why fans keep asking when this couple will get engaged in real-life let alone be married.

Exclusive Interview w/ 'Glee’s Jane Lynch

The comedic star talks about ‘Glee’s final season, a co-star’s possible spin-off, and the importance of eating breakfast every day

Since her debut in 2009, Sue Sylvester, the brassy cheerleading squad coach known for wearing her iconic red tracksuit and constantly screaming insults through a bull horn, is considered to be one of the most favorite television characters of this decade. Even the Los Angeles Times and Entertainment Weekly have praised Jane Lynch’s performance on the show, stating that “[she] makes Glee worth watching” and that Sue Sylvester is “the greatest Broadway–musical villain to ever co-star in a TV series.”

But acclamation goes beyond verbal praise for the 53-year-old actress; she has won various awards including a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for playing such a dynamic role. But one of the most prestigious awards that any entertainer could ever receive in their lifetime would be a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That dream came true for Lynch on September 2013 and came as a surprise for her.

Jane jokingly talks about the day that she first heard she would be getting a star on Hollywood Blvd.

She said, “I have to tell you it was certainly not on my bucket list. I was thrilled and honored. I’ve been by lately to visit it, so I can make sure it’s still there.”

Over the years Glee has become very successful at defining pop culture with their own rendition of popular hit songs from various artists like the Beatles, Journey, Madonna and Michael Jackson. However, Glee did face devastating news that shocked both fans and the entertainment world alike when the show lost one of its cast members, quarterback Finn Hudson, played by Cory Monteith. It was reported that the 31-year-old actor died from an apparent drug overdose in a Vancouver hotel room on July 13, 2013. Three months later it was announced by Glee co-creator and executive producer, Ryan Murphy, that season six would be the show’s final season.

When asked what she thinks about Glee coming to end, Jane responded, “It is fine with me. If the show ends on its sixth season then I totally support that.”

Though Glee will be over this year, this has not stopped Jane from pursuing other endeavors. Last May she was in the Broadway production of Annie as the evil Miss Hannigan and is currently hosting NBC’s Hollywood Game Night.

“I love doing theater work,” Jane lamented, “I don’t have any concrete plans [after Glee]. But I’m excited to do a whole bunch of stuff. I love to sing maybe have a concert night here and there.”

This answer comes as a bit of a surprise since Jane’s memorable performances go beyond television but the big screen as well. Her movie credits include: The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and several animated films like Wreck-It Ralph and Escape from Planet Earth. With such an impressive list of movie appearances, Jane should have no trouble returning to films after her days of playing Sue Sylvester are over.

Around Glee’s fifth season last year, the show had moved from William McKinley High School in Ohio to New York City and will stay there for the duration of its run. Such a move made people speculate that one of Glee’s cast members, Lea Michele, would have her own spin-off. When asked if she thinks the rumors are true about the alleged spin-off, Jane gave a coy response, “If I had [Lea] under contract I would do a show around her too (Laughs). She’s a great talent. And I’m sure a lot of people will be rooting for her success.”

Though Jane has been very busy with other projects, she has found time to partner up with belVita breakfast biscuits to encourage people to make time to eat breakfast.

“I was on board to work with belVita because I’m one of those people that never know what to have for breakfast. So I would end up skipping the most important meal of the day, which is a big mistake to do. I usually pair [the biscuits] with yogurt or a soy latte. It’s healthy because it’s whole grain and contains around three to five grams of fiber. It’s a no brainer to have in the morning.”

belVita is sold at most local grocery stores. For more nutritional information about belvita’s products go to their website:

The event also included a special performance by MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew champions, Quest Crew, leaving the crowd      stunned by the group’s impressive dance moves.

But, of course, the highlight of the event that has gotten the most media attention all week was Adrienne Maloof arriving to the glitzy party hand in hand with her new, 24-year-old boyfriend, Jacob Busch, the heir to Anheuser Busch. It was reported that at the party the two were cuddling up poolside, enjoying each others company. The 52-year-old reality star recently discussed about the couple’s age difference to E! News. She stated, “When you meet someone they don’t have a number on their forehead…When we met we just hit it off. It felt so natural, so organic.”

Celebrity Event: BeautyCon Los Angeles 2013

The online world of beauty and fashion certainly did come to life in and around the city of angels last week thanks to BeautyCon Los Angeles.

For those not familiar with BeautyCon, this convention, organized by Beauty+Fashion Vloggers Alliance (BFVA), brings together the most influential YouTube personalities, celebrity beauty/fashion gurus, bloggers, pinners, instagrammers, tweethearts and their fans together to talk about what else? Beauty and fashion!

The second annual BeautyCon Los Angeles was held on Saturday (Aug. 24) at Siren Studios in Hollywood, California. It was reported that prior to the doors opening at 10 am, guests waited in line that stretched over three blocks long, causing congestion that shut down Gower and Sunset Blvd. But the wait was certainly worth it. Not only did the over 10,000 rsvp’s in attendance get the chance to mingle with several online video/social media celebrities; they also received the latest beauty tricks from the most influential beauty and fashion trendsetters in the digital world. Even the internet was buzzing about the event, causing the hashtag #BeautyCon to reach the number one spot on Twitter for a couple hours throughout the day.

There were many industry professionals in attendance giving fashion tips, including advice on how to market your brand effectively, and a Q&A presentation featuring Fashion Police Co-star Kelly Osbourne. But the best part of the event were guests getting the chance to try out new products from their favorite brands such as Bare Minerals, Pose, Minx Nails, Million Dollar Tan, Bellami Hair, Epoxy, Proactive skin care, and Lorac.

Though BeautyCon was a three-day event (Aug. 22-24), the first two days were by invitation only for BFVA members. got the chance to attend these exclusive VIP events. The second day, Beauty and Partners Event, gave the opportunity for various brands to showcase their latest products for today’s most influential content creators. Not only did guests get the chance to network and discuss the future of online media on fashion trends; they also attended various workshops, which included spa, hair styling, and makeup activities.

The most inspiring moments that made a lasting impression on attendees were the VIP Influencers Welcome event at the Youtube Space LA in Playa Vista, California, which kicked off BeautyCon Los Angeles week.

The private party was dedicated to the most influential vloggers, beauty trendsetters, and celebrities in the world of online fashion. Over a thousand in attendance listened in on a distinguish panel of celebrity guests, which included Leslie Blodgett (Founder of Bare Minerals), Singer/actress Christina Milian, Alisa Gould Simon (Founder of Pose), Mandana Dayani (VP of Rachel Zoe Inc), and One Tree Hill’s Sophia Bush, share their opinion on why taking risks are necessary to make you stand out in a highly competitive industry. They also agreed that there are some benefits to being fearful, because more than likely you will want to learn new things and thus reach out to others for help.

After the group’s discussion had ended, guests got the chance to personally speak to their favorite stars. A crowd gathered around Christina Milian anxious to take a photo with her and admire her gorgeous engagement ring from her fiancé, Jas Prince. The 31-year-old starlet revealed to fans that unfortunately she will not be returning to The Voice next season, but will be on a new show. It has been rumored that she will be on Dancing with the Stars, despite Millian not confirming that to reporters while being interviewed at the red carpet event that night.

Guests certainly enjoyed getting sound advice for any makeup artist, hairstylist, and fashion enthusiast wanting to start their own blog or Youtube channel. They also got the chance to take home goody bags of their favorite brands, containing various new beauty and makeup products courtesy of Neutrogena, Jurlique, Joico Hair Care, Revitalash, Lightening Whitening, and Destiny Candles.

Many of those who have a strong passion for sharing beauty tips and their favorite fashion trends through an online platform, but yet have no idea how to get started, High profile Vlogger, Kandee Johnson, gave the most honest input on what creating a beauty and fashion blog or YouTube channel is all about. “Viewers really enjoy watching a person that is genuine over someone that is overly technical. When I first started off making videos, my camera work was awful and the lighting was bad. During filming, I kept dropping things. But that’s what people liked about my videos. I talk to my viewers like I would talk to my sister or one of my friends. And that is what people want to watch-- someone that they can relate to,” Johnson stated.

There was also a discussion on the downside of internet fame such as dealing with haters that post mean comments. Youtube sensations, Elle and Blair Fowler (All that glitters21 and Juicystar07) suggested that having a thick-skin is necessary to have a successful channel. “It’s okay to share private things about yourself. But you have to be ready for negative things people might say,” Elle added.
One the biggest questions everyone wanted to know was what fashion trend to happening right now? The best answer Kandee Johnson gave was advising people to be ahead of the popular trends. She said, “You can’t go based on following fashion or beauty trends in magazines; because they publish that stuff three months in advance so in reality it’s old news. You should wear what you like and take risks. Maybe it will turn out well.”

BeautyCon is also held in two other major cities—London and Tokyo, so be sure to visit the website to get updates on when and where you can attend next year’s convention
