Interview with reality star Khloe Kardashian Odom

There are various comments that come to mind when news media outlets write about reality star family: the Kardashians. And even if these statements are either positive or negative, it seems to have little effect on the family's publicity machine.

The Kardashians have and continue to make a name for themselves whether it is through memorabilia, or their clothing stores, D-A-S-H, or even spin-offs of their most popular E! show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. But it's more than red carpet events and TV appearances that the Kardashians focus on. They have also given back to the community through charity work and partnering with several non-profit organizations for a cause.

TheCelebrityCafe.com recently spoke with one of the three most popular sisters of the family: Khloe Kardashian Odom. During the brief interview, Khloe, discusses about her Generation Know Campaign and how important it is to empower young girls with knowledge about what they can expect when reaching puberty.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: What is your involvement with Kotex’s Generation Know Campaign?

Khloe Kardashian Odom: My involvement is just getting the word out about Generation Know. We recently launched this website for young girls that have questions about their bodies, including their health and really anything else they want to know. Young ladies can get the facts about such things through these discussion forums, without feeling shy or embarrassed about it. I am all about girl empowerment and building self-esteem.

TCC: As a teen did you ever have the talk with your mom, Kris, when you became a woman?

Khloe: The mother and daughter talk can feel a bit uncomfortable. (Laughs) My mom would definitely do her best to give me that talk, though it was always awkward. I really wish I did have the resources such as GenerationKnow.com when I was younger, because you’re not always comfortable asking your parents about everything.

TCC: Have your younger sisters, Kendall and Kylie, ever come to you or your older sisters, Kim and Kourtney, for any womanly advice?

Khloe: My younger sisters come to me all the time when they have questions about their bodies. I think that is why you’re supposed to have sisters -- to give each other good advice. When I teamed up with U by Kotex three years ago, Kendall and Kylie were going through puberty. During that time, I was helping them out by offering them lots of information about the changes they were going through both physically and emotionally. It was just so ironic how around that time U by Kotex reached out to me. That is one of the reasons why I really wanted to team up with them, because through my little sisters I learned just how much false information is out there. I really do think they should teach more about this kind of stuff at school.

TCC: Who do you look up to as a woman?

Khloe: I really look up to my mom and older sisters. I even look up to my younger sisters. I’m impressed how Kendall and Kylie have handled there teenage years in such a miraculous way compared to the way I handled my teenage years. It’s pretty phenomenal to watch.

TCC: I know this is off topic, but by any chance do you know if Kim and Kanye [West] have decided what to name their unborn child?

Khloe: No, they haven’t yet. She’s not even out of her first trimester. So we don’t even know what the baby’s sex is. We’ll just have to wait and find out.

Please go to U by Kotex’s website for more information about Generation Know and of their charity support for GirlsForAChange.org.

Interview with Action Star Dolph Lundgren

If you have never heard of Dolph Lundgren, clearly you haven’t watched enough action movies in your lifetime. Best known for starring in Rocky IV as the Russian contender, Ivan Drago, the former martial artist has continued to make a name for himself as an action star. He even portrayed action figure, He-Man, in the 1987 film, Masters of the Universe. However, around the late 90’s his career reached a rough patch after making a slew of straight to DVD films, but regained popularity after appearing in the action packed thriller, Expendables, in 2010.

Recently, the Swedish actor/director reprised his role as killing machine, Andrew Scott, in Universal Soldier:Day of Reckoning, which is the third installment to the Universal Soldier franchise. The trilogy was released last year to mark the 20 year anniversary of the film’s original release in 1992 and also stars another famous action star from the past, Jean-Claude Van Damme. TheCelebrityCafe.com chatted with Mr. Lundgren about his upcoming projects and why aging action stars are still relevant in Hollywood.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: Most of your memorable characters were villains. Do you prefer playing a bad guy or the hero?

Dolph Lundgren: When I play a villain I try to get the guy to be entertaining and enjoyable to the audience. It’s more fun to play a villain and a bit easier, actually, because there are few rules you have to stick by. With playing a hero it’s more about being openly sensitive and reacting more. In my case, I feel more comfortable playing the hero now. Maybe because I’m becoming more mellow and relaxed. But there are times when you find a character that displays both good and bad. Like with my character, [Gunner Jensen], in Expendables. He’s a bit crazy, but towards the end of the film he turns out to be not such a bad guy after all.

TCC: Why do you think Arnold Schwarzenegger, Liam Neeson, and Sylvester Stallone still have that box office appeal despite being in their 50’s and 60’s?

DL: Because this group can carry a picture even if they‘re older. I suppose there is a certain need for more mature and experienced tough guys in movies as well. I mean, look at Clint Eastwood. He’s in his 80’s and can still pull off a tough guy role. I think if you stay in shape and current with what’s going on in the film industry and the world in general you could find roles where you can play your own age, like the people you mentioned.

This same concept could be applied in the real world. Who would you pick to command an air craft carrier in the Persian Gulf? You wouldn’t choose a 25-year-old kid even if they are smart, heroic, and well-trained because they don’t the experience to handle that kind of responsibility. That is why men and women in their 50’s and 60’s are given such responsibilities, like leading a nation or being appointed as generals in the military, because of the wisdom and maturity they have learned through their experiences in life.

TCC: Because of your age have you limited what stunts you are able to perform?

DL: Yes, to some extent. When you’re in your 20’s you take more risks because you sometimes want to show off. But as you get older you begin to think twice about taking such risky moves because you just don’t want to go through with facing a possible injury if the stunt doesn’t go as planned.

TCC: You have built a career starring in action films, but have you ever wanted to do drama or maybe star in a comedy?

DL: Yeah, over the past couple of years I’ve thought about that. I think everyone wants to do as much as possible in their career and in life. But in this business you have to be able to sell tickets. I will always do action movies because people want to see me in these types of films. Though starring in a drama or comedy would be a good departure at least.

TCC: Have you already filmed Expendables 3? If so, have any other actions stars joined the cast?

DL: No, Expendables 3 has not yet been filmed. I haven’t even seen a script. As of now I’m doing a TV series called Rescue 3. It’s about a special reaction unit consisting of lifeguards, firefighters, and the California coast guard. I play the leader of one of those units. We’re shooting now for six months. Hopefully, Expendables 3 will begin filming during the fall. I know Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan, and a couple others are expected to be in the film, but I can’t be certain. It probably won’t be confirmed until a few months from now.

TCC: Who is your favorite action star?

DL: I like the classic tough guys like Sean Connery and Clint Eastwood. They don’t come off as actors but appear as just regular guys that happened to walk onto the set from a real job. There is something appealing about playing these drinking, fighting types of characters that come from a blue collar background. I like those kind of guys ‘cause I’m a little bit like them myself.

TCC: Do people to this day refer to you as Ivan Drago?

DL: Oh yeah, of course. Sometimes when you make a film you never know if the movie or the role you play will make a lasting impression on the audience. But that character Drago certainly did. It’s usually the larger than life characters that people tend to remember the most.

TCC: Have you and Sylvester Stallone ever talked about reprising your role as Drago for another Rocky movie?

DL: Thank god no! (Laughs) I don’t want to get in those trunks again, let me tell you. I’m really happy that I don’t have to. Though I have done sequels for a couple of films I have been in (Expendables and Universal Soldier) I feel when you don’t make a sequel it makes the film more memorable. So I would leave Drago alone. It’s much better that way.

‘Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning’ is available now on Blu Ray and DVD

Also, be sure to check out Dolph Lundgren’s new action series ‘Rescue 3’ premiering on Tribune stations this fall.

Interview with Celebrity Chef Giada De Laurentiis

http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/2012/12/interview-celebrity-chef-giada-de-laurentiis?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Renowned cookbook author and Food Network star, Giada De Laurentiis, whose expertise in Italian cuisine has made her into a superstar in the cooking world. Best known for her television show, Everyday Italian, and for regular appearances on the Today show, Giada continues to build a household name for herself as a celebrity spokeswoman for various brands, and has even launched her own cookware and kitchen supplies that are directly sold at Target.

In an exclusive interview with TheCelebrityCafe.com, talented chef, Giada De Laurentiis, talks about holiday entertaining, her recent partnering with Clairol, and the importance of empowering women that lead busy lives but still want to look and feel sexy.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: What advice would you give for holiday entertaining/
hosting?

Giada: When it comes to holiday entertaining and hosting, the number one thing you want to do is make sure you are well prepared and relaxed. The last thing guests want to see is a frantic hostess. It makes them a little bit uncomfortable. Secondly, try to see if you could have other guests bring food or drinks, kind of like a potluck. Or you can mix and match by making one or two items and then buying something already prepared, just decorate it on a beautiful platter.

TCC: You also stress the importance of healthy indulgences during the holidays. What would you define as a healthy indulgence?

Giada: It is something that is guilt-free. It’s good to be healthy, but in order to maintain that you have to, in my opinion, indulge once in awhile. Otherwise it can get kind of boring. So a healthy balance would be using healthy ingredients both in your food and the way you take care of yourself.

TCC: But what if a person is on a diet? How can they avoid feeling deprived at a Christmas party?

Giada: It’s best to not go to a party starving because when you get there you’ll want to feel like eating everything in sight. It’s good to have a little snack or eat something at home first. Then at the party you could taste a little bit of everything if you want and not feel deprived. Usually hosts don’t serve more than three or four dishes at a holiday party.

When it comes to drinks, you could have a glass of champagne, which is the lowest calorie alcoholic drink to have. Or, if you don’t feel like drinking, have a sparkling water with some lime and lemon to make it festive.

TCC: What are your most favorite holiday dishes you make for guests?

Giada: Dessert-wise I love making my almond cornmeal cake. It’s a dessert you can make ahead of time and is baked in a bundt cake pan. I top the cake off with sweet syrup made out of pomegranate juice that’s reduced down until it has a thick, jelly-like consistency. The ruby colored pomegranate syrup gives the golden colored almond cornmeal cake a beautiful look that fits well with the holiday season.

For savory items, I usually offer three different things. One is my red pepper hummus in a cucumber cup, which I make two days in advance and then put it together before the party. Second, I make mini smoked salmon pizzas. It’s another dish I make ahead of time and then assemble together before guests arrive. And lastly, I make beef skewers served with a tomato relish. All these dishes are fun, tasty, and festive.

TCC: Does your little girl ever help you out when you’re cooking?

Giada: Well, Jade is almost five and she loves being in the kitchen with me. I’m hoping that she will still feel the same way about cooking later on in life. But you never know, either she’ll love to cook or will absolutely hate it. But for now she adores being in the kitchen, not just for the time we spend playing and laughing, but the fact that she gets to taste everything, especially when it comes to desserts. That is the most joy she gets.

TCC: Since you are a spokesperson for Clairol, in what way has their hair care products become part of your beauty routine?

Giada: I’m extremely honored to be working with Clairol’s Natural Instincts because no one in my field has ever been given this opportunity. Also, I’m a busy mom and I work a lot. Being on television I have to look my best. What Natural Instincts has personally given me is the ability to color my hair within 10 minutes while I’m tending to work-related matters or when I’m taking care of my daughter. What I also love about Natural Instincts is that it is ammonia-free and contains ingredients that leave my hair soft and shiny. I feel this partnership with Clairol has really given me some tools of empowerment as well. I hope it can help a lot of other women as well feel good about themselves.

TCC: Are there any types of food you eat that are part of your beauty regimen?

Giada: I always use olive oil when cooking because it’s good for your body, skin, and hair. I also eat avocados whenever I can. It’s amazing for your skin and contains lots of nutrients. Another food item I eat most often are almonds. They contain good fat that’s great for your hair and skin. It’s important to eat healthy, organic food you like and that makes you feel good.

TCC: By any chance is there a particular show on Food Network you like watching?

Giada: Other than my show? (Laughs) I’m just kidding! Yes, I do like watching Barefoot Contessa. Ina [Garten] and I are good friends. I always say to her that I hope to be like her when I’m her age. Of course, our age differences are not that far apart. But she is such a wonderful human being, truly, in every sense of the word. She is so giving and loving. Those qualities are well presented on Barefoot Contessa and that’s why I really do enjoy watching her show.

Giada is debuting her new shade - Clairol Natural Instincts in Navajo Bronze. To see what shade is right for you go to the Clairol website.
